Migration issues

Do I need a visa to enter in Moldova?

The citizens of the most of EU states, the holders of all the types of passports, do not need visas for the entry on the territory of the Republic of Moldova for a period of stay until 90 days, during six months from the moment of the first entry. Residence permits (and work permits, study permits, etc.) are required for stays over 90 days.

Do I need a work permit while in Moldova?

Foreign citizens and stateless persons who want to engage in employment in the Republic of Moldova must obtain work permit from the National Agency for Employment of the Ministry of Economy. Please consult our Entry conditions section for further details.

How long does it take to obtain a Moldova visa?

Typically, a visa takes anywhere from 2 days to 15 days to process in the Moldova Embassy/Consulate depending on the consulate that we need to send the application to and whether you choose to "rush" your Moldova visa.

My family is eligible for any special care, while in Moldova?

I am considering PhD studies in Moldova. How can I apply?

I would like to stay more than 90 days in Moldova. How can I extend my stay?

You must apply for a residence permit at the Bureau of Migration and Asylum, 124 Stefan cel Mare Street, Chisinau. Does this well before your 90 days stay expire.

Social security and health insurance

How many health insurance funds are there in Moldova?

In Moldova we have a National health insurance fund, managed by NHIC, a state non-profit company www.cnam.md.

If I need to go to a medical specialist, what do I do?

Taxes

How much income tax do I need to pay in Moldova?

The nonresident’s employee must contribute to the social and health security the same percentage like residence employee. A foreign individual on a local contract is in the same position as a Moldovan employee. To qualify as taxable resident, individuals should be domiciled in the Republic of Moldova and must have lived 183 days or more in the Republic of Moldova during one fiscal year.

I need to declare my taxes in Moldova.

Yes you need to declare your taxes; The fiscal year is the calendar year. The corporate profits tax returns must be filled by March 31 of the year following the reporting year. All taxes must be paid in Moldovan Lei (MDL). For incomes realized in foreign currency, tax payments are made in MDL, using the official exchange rate at the date of payment.

Do I need to pay social tax from my salary?

Foreign citizens working in Moldova, which have a permanent residency in the country, have the obligation to pay social security contribution. If permanent residency in the country is not established then it is not compulsory to pay social security contributions.

Miscellaneous

Is Moldova a member of the European Union?

Moldova is not yet a member of the European Union but our Government undertakes all necessary steps so that Republic of Moldova becomes a Member State in the near future. Starting with 28 April 2014 all Moldavian citizens have liberalized visa regime and even tomorrow, 27.06.2014 will be signed the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.

What are the conditions required to take a car for rent in Moldova?

You need to have the ID card or passport, driving license with minimum 3 years of experience, minimal age 23 years. International driving licenses are accepted: eg. Italian, German, Greek, Russian, etc..

What exactly is Transnistria?

The Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova is located on the left bank of the Nistru River. Transnistria has not been controlled by the central Moldovan authorities since the region unilaterally declared its independence on the 2nd of September 1990. Transnistria is organized as a presidential republic, with its own government, parliament, military, police, security service, postal system, telephone system and currency. Its de facto authorities have adopted a constitution, flag, national anthem, and a coat of arms.
